The Wrexham Texans Football Academy (WTFA) Literacy Project is a program created to support local Elementary and Middle schools using football (soccer) as a vehicle to promote reading and writing levels in both boys and girls. The project has and continues to be implemented throughout the City of Fort Worth Parks and Rec Department during the summer months at community centers across the city. To date, almost 200 children have had access to the project which has elevated reading levels while also improving physical activity levels using the game of soccer to enhance this.
What are people saying about Coach Merola?
“Tony has an easy manner and an enthusiastic approach that brings out the best in players of all ages and abilities. He is dedicated to developing skills, nurturing talent and sharing his love of football.”
“Tony Merola coached my son and with his positive coaching style and leadership, he re-built my son's confidence and restored his love of the game. His ability to connect with individuals with his passion for the game is hard to find.”
“It has been great to see Tony's pathway take him from Wrexham FC to the US. I got to witness his work last year in the NPSL on the training ground and on matchday. His passion for the game and compassion for his players shone through. I wish him well into this new venture and I wish him every success.”
“I've had the privilege of playing for Tony and he truly addresses all aspects of the game in the principles he has developed. His wealth of coaching experience in the UK and US shows. He connects with players on a personal level, helping individuals and teams improve and to perform in competition whilst making every session enjoyable. From youth grade to the professional player, I highly recommend working with Tony.”
“Coach Tony was such a positive influence on my son and his team. At the beginning of the season they looked like they were 1 level above bumble bee soccer but by the end of the season were using the entire field and playing positions properly. He connected with the kids through their passion for soccer and helped them continue to love the sport.”
“I have known Tony 30 years since our days together at Wrexham Football Club. Even then he displayed a deep knowledge of the game and there was never any doubt he would go on to be a top coach. I would have no hesitation recommending Tony to anybody who was thinking about the development of their child.”
